In Greek mythology, Pegasus was sired by Poseidon and sprang from the gorgon Medusa's blood upon being decapitated by Perseus. The loyal Pegasus carried thunderbolts from Olympus to Zeus until he was tamed by Bellerophon and assisted the hero in slaying the Chimera. Like dragons, mythological winged or flying horses are also present in other cultures: Buraq in Islam, Chollima in Korea, Tianma in China, and the steed of the Norse Valkyries. I think the concept of flying horses were naturally to early man what our vision is today for flying cars. Artistically, this majestic creature evokes beauty, strength, and freedom. This is actually my third version. Version 2.0 here. My thanks again to the Ceramic Art Studio and Shop.

"To a great mind, nothing is little."
One of my favorite literary characters of all time, Sherlock Holmes was the creation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and first appeared in 1887's A Study in Scarlet. Conan Doyle claimed he based Holmes on Joseph Bell, a surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, whom he met in 1877 and had worked for as a clerk. However, the greatest influence on the popular image of Holmes was perhaps Sidney Paget, the artist who illustrated Holmes and Watson for the Strand Magazine. Paget based Holmes' likeness on his older brother Walter, also an artist and whom was actually the intended illustrator the Strand meant to hire for the Conan Doyle's short stories. My sculpture is a tribute to Paget's work and a composite of a few actors that portrayed the iconic detective: Basil Rathbone, Peter Cushing, and my personal favorite Jeremy Brett.
